CRYSTAL COVE HIKING 远足(2014.11)Two weeks later, on Saturday, October 18, 2014, the international students at ACA returned to Crystal Cove State Park, where they had gone two years earlier.
For many of our current students, this was their first experience at this beautiful vista. Students enjoyed tiring themselves out on a two-and-a-half mile hike plus the mile to and from the trailhead. Students also enjoyed swimming or playing football in and near the cool waters of the Pacific as afternoon began turning into evening. After a day spent in the state park, dinner at a Korean barbeque served as a perfect conclusion. Judging by the many songs that serenaded the driver and staff on the way home, it seemed like a very successful trip filled with happy students after an enjoyable meal. |
BOWLING NIGHT 保龄之夜(2014.9)Entering the bowling alley, the sound of many languages mingled with the sharp rolling sounds of large heavy balls hitting pins and collapsing to the ground. Arcade music and excited bowlers of all ages mingled with the noise of over fifty students rapidly greeting each other as if they had not seen each other in weeks. Soon after entering Empire Bowl, we proceeded to exit the building only to reenter after being split into new groups.
We all had an excellent time at our teacher-student bowling night. Honored guests included Headmaster Mr. Cole, parents, cousins, Mrs. Nelson, and both of my young sons, who had a great time attempting to bowl with Daddy and his “bowling group”. Throughout the night, bowling balls rolled, pins fell, students cheered, and some amazed themselves how well they did. All seemed to have a great time. In between rounds students took pictures, chatted with each other, Mr. Han, Mr. Cole, and the other guests who came. They also enjoyed pizza, soda (and water), and arcade games. It was a good night. |

BEACH TRIP 海滩游(2014.8)In reflecting on the day at Huntington Beach, ESL student Tiffany said: “I remember that it was an awesome day that we spent at Huntington Beach. We played songs on the way there on the bus. Everyone was so happy. We had IN-N-Out for lunch. We played so many interesting games. We worked together as a team. I liked the hot dogs we ate. We made them by ourselves and they were so delicious. My friends and I jumped into the ocean and felt it. It was so amazing. On the way home, we also had some funny stories that made us so happy. Everything was so awesome.”
ESL student Eric also wrote a reflection/story on/about the day. He wrote, “‘Anyone want another hot dog?’ Mrs. King asks. But everyone is having so much fun, so no one wants another hot dog. We were at Huntington Beach on Saturday [August 23]. We played for the whole day and we all smelled like smoke [from the campfires] when we headed back to school. On the way back to school, everybody was sharing stories about their favorite parts of the day. ‘I liked the ring-taking game,’ said Wallace. Of course he liked it because he literally took the ring and hung it on his upper body, which is supposed to be standing inside the ring without cheating. He grabbed it and ran like the wind. No one got him until he fell. ‘Dude, you should play football!' Junior Hao was one of those who tried to catch Wallace. He said he was so hungry after the game that he ate three hot dogs. ‘I love BBQ but it made me [smell] smokey,’ I said, with the annoying sand in my shoes. I went into the ocean and it was so cold that I felt I was in a polar area. ‘So, I was swimming and all of a sudden, a huge wave hit me and scrolled me all the way to the beach,’ a Korean student said while making a weird face because of the hurt. ‘Everyone had s’mores right?’ a student asked. ‘Then you should all have sweet dreams,’ said another.” Everyone had a great day at the beach. We are all excited to go back next year. |
