Thank you for your interest in Arrowhead Christian academy! You won’t find a better international department than ours! I am privileged to work alongside such dedicated professionals to ensure that each and every one of our international students feels supported, valued and able to reach their God given potential. I am proud of our ESL program which is designed to develop the language ability at three levels; ESL 1, 2 and advanced. Our ESL program is centered on Christian themes and ESL 1 students are placed into special ESL Bible classes.
The ESL 1 course is designed to develop international students’ classroom-related English skills with the aim of building firm foundations for future ESL classes, regular student classes at ACA, and the TOEFL exam. Each week, ESL 1 students will have access to, and support with, general TOEFL preparation, reading introduction, basic writing skills, speaking practice, listening comprehension, classroom discussions, grammar activities and cultural education. On successful completion of ESL 1 students move on to ESL 2 where they can expect to receive frequent reading practice activities, vocabulary lists, and opportunities for verbally presenting their work. In addition to this, attention will be given to American-cultural education as a means of assisting students with culture-based questions found (directly or indirectly) on the SAT exams and other assessments. Advanced ESL at ACA is a demanding, college-preparatory course that seeks to improve International students’ skills in all areas of English with the ultimate goal of reaching a high-advanced level and an eventual ESL-free schedule. This class also plays a supporting role to regular coursework assignments so that students can succeed in all the classes they are enrolled in at the school. As with ESL 1 and 2 this class endeavors to present the English language in an enjoyable and engaging way and is structured so that each week students are able to experience both routine and variety. I really enjoy watching our students grow in confidence with their language use. It’s a real joy to watch young people who are initially timid and unsure develop into confident and outgoing English speakers. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you. Faithfully, Mrs. L Baker |
